New Layout

If you're reading this, you've probably noticed that my blog has a new look. I think the whole sliding-transparent-content-area-over-a-picture-of-wood-planks thing was getting a little old. Let me know what you think about it in the comments!

  1. Mmmmmmmmm...

One of the reasons I prefer WordPress.com over Blogger is that WordPress has better themes. This one is okay, but it lacks polish. It is certainly better than the wood/planks/trans/pseudo/faux/etc theme.

    1. Please, do explain "polish". Also, this theme is not one of the default blogger themes. It's totally tweakable.

    2. A lack of "polish" isn't something you can put down to just one design indiscretion - rather it is the sum of many small things. For example: the lack of any left or right padding for text in the blue boxes under "popular posts" or how under "follow by email" the text box is so short that the text "EMAIL ADDRESS" cannot be completely seen or how that text box is inexplicably taller than the accompanying "SUBMIT" button. Also how it says "©2013 Seth Meyers" it two places and also how the footer is narrower than the rest of the page or how there is a one pixel black border on the top and left of all the avatars in the comments. And also the inconsistent styling of dropdown menus - the one under "blog archive" retains system styling while the one in the footer for "subscribe to" is some kinda snazzy JavaScript menu (although it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the theme at all since it sports rounded corners rather than the boxy-nes of the rest of the site). My guess is the theme designer just copied and pasted some code from an article on some web development blog.

There's more but I don't have time to list them.

    3. Thanks for the feedback. I want to polish this theme a lot, because I agree with some of your points. It's a Windows 8 theme that I found and customized. Maybe sometime I can give you temporary access to my Google account so you can polish it up a bit. As long as you don't wreak havoc upon my Youtube, G+, etc.
      We'll see.

Not sure I could help a whole lot, I'm not a terribly talented designer myself, but then again, maybe I could.

A more pressing matter is your avatar for twitter. You look kinda ill or something equally distressing. Use your Google one. It looks vastly better. Where's it from? It looks not just relatively good, but good, period.

    5. My Google profile pic was taken on my 16th birthday with a high-end Nikon point and shoot.

    6. Hmm. I like it. Muchly. If you told me it was on film I wouldn't have been surprised. A happy coincidence of the right light and the right processing can make digital look like that.

    7. It was taken near the "Golden Hour" for photography. So that helped. And I am good at processing with Gimp.

  3. Hmm... I'm not sure if I love it or hate it. One thing I could do without is the side bar with "Popular Posts," in particular the images on the side - they don't go well with the rest of the theme.

I'm probably not much help, but those are my thoughts.

  4. This new theme with the starry background could actually be improved in one respect - use Papyrus or Trebuchet as the font. Trebuchet ranks up there with Papyrus and Comic Sans MS as one of the worst fonts in history. The design also makes me inexplicably think of Isaiah.

    1. I didn't say why it made me think of you. I think it was the dark background - your Webs site had a dark one as well. Er, that and the poor taste in design.

    2. No, scratch that, I have a better retort:

      "Tut, tut, what temper"

  5. This layout is enough to make me barf...well not really but it's pretty bad. This was made as an April Fools, correct?

    1. Depends. The Nightmare from the 90's? Yes. The Metro-style layout? No.

    2. Yes, I was referring to the "Nightmare from the 90's."
